Mayer ensures uncatchable lead for Germany
Germany
has won the first tie at the POWER HORSE WORLD TEAM CUP against the
current Daviscup-winner, Serbia. Florian Mayer, who is now ranked No.
21, ensures the 2-0 lead for the German team by playing a top singles
match against Viktor Troicki (No. 16). Florian Mayer beat Viktor
Troicki in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Mayer obviously outplayed his opponent. Mayer's good serve, returns and accurately played winners only took him 27 minutes to win the first set. Also in the second set, the 27-year old righty from Bayreuth kept putting his opponent under pressure in order to close the match in 54 minutes only.
Mayer, who improved his ranking by 16 places and is now the No. 21 of the world – his best ranking ever - thus confirmed his excellent form. The pressure caused by being the No. 1 of the German team did not seem to bother Florian Mayer at all.
