Robin Soderling equalizes for Sweden
As expected, Robin
Soderling equalized the tie against the USA by winning his match in
the Red Group. The No. Five player defeated the US-boy, Sam Querrey,
5-7, 7-5, 7-6 and thereby won his ninths singles match in a row at
the POWER HORSE WORLD
TEAM CUP. The last time the 27-year old player lost in Dusseldorf was
against Fernando Gonzalez from Chile in 2007.
However, Soderling had to fight a tough match before wrapping things up. He lost the first set against the American player 5-7, who played an impeccably good first set. At 2-4 with several break points for Querrey, Soderling seemed defeated in the second set. When Querrey served for the match at 5-4, Soderling broke him in a 0-game and succeeded in winning the set 7-5.
The third set went the whole way: Soderling won the set in the tiebreak. It took Soderling two and a half hours to wrap up the match.
