Florian Mayer captures 1-0 lead for Germany

Florian Mayer's second appearance and second victory at the POWER HORSE WORLD TEAM CUP 2011: Germany's top player won his match against Marcel Granollers (Spain) 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and thus seized the 1-0 lead for his team. The second singles match between Philipp Kohlschreiber and Daniel Gimeno-Traver, as well as the doubles match will be played tomorrow (Wednesday).

After his straight-set victory against Viktor Troicki from Serbia (ranked no. 16), the player from Bayreuth (ranked No. 21) had much more difficulties against the Spaniard, Granollers, who is ranked no. 47. Mayer lost the first set despite an early break 4-6, because his first serve percentage merely reached 46% and his game was too inconsistent.

In the second set, Mayer got more and more confident, won a deciding break point and won the set 6-4. The third set was a mere matter of form. The German player dominated the set and converted his first match point after two hours and 19 minutes and won the set 6-2.
