1-0 for Germany
Petzschner beats Andreev
The Wimbledon
winner, Philipp Petzschner, provided for the German lead by winning
his match against Russia at the POWER HORSE
WORLD TEAM CUP at the Rochusclub in Germany. The player from Bayreuth
won his first singles match ever at the World Team Cup against Igor
Andreev 6-2, 6-4. The second singles match will be played by Philipp
Kohlschreiber from Augsburg and the Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who is
the no. 13 in the world. In order to make it to the finals, however,
Germany will need to beat the Russian team and, at the same time,
hope that Spain loses to Serbia.
Right from the start of the match on Centre Court I, Petzschner convinced with his powerful baseline game and well-timed net attacks. In the first set, Andreev rose to the occasion until 2-2, before Petzschner succeeded in winning a contested service game. The outcome of the second set was open for a long time. At first, Andreev hardly had any problems to keep his serve, while Petzschner had to go via deuce several times in order to win his service games. Finally, at 4-4, the German player managed to break his opponent (pps).
