Germany claims record fifth title

is the winner of the 34th
POWER
HORSE WORLD TEAM CUP. Patrik Kühnen's team won the deciding
doubles match against Argentina 6-4, 7-6 and thus captured the
treasured World Champion title for the fifth time. Therefore, the
Germans are the sole record title holder in the history of the
tournament at the Rochusclub in Dusseldorf.
Since, after the two singles matches the score was 1-1 – Florian Mayer had won against Juan Monaco 7-6, 6-0, Juan Ignacio Chela had equalized the score by beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 7-6 – the final tie had to be decided by the doubles for 17th time in the history of the tournament.
Juan Ignacio Chela/Maximo Gonzalez against Philipp Kohlschreiber/Philipp Petzschner was the match, in which the Germans had the better start in the first set. They quickly succeeded in breaking their opponents, however, got the rebreak at 3-4. After breaking the Argentineans back, Petzschner served for the set after 30 minutes, which the German team won 6-3.
Also in the second set the German duo broke the Argentineans early in the set (2-1). As in the first set, the Argentineans came back by breaking their opponents (3-3). In the tiebreak, Chela lost his serve at 5-6, which was the victory for Germany after 79 minutes. Argentina and Germany already played the finals in 1989 and 2005. Both times the Gauchos had lost 1-2 and both times the tie was decided by the doubles match.
